About Founder

Rev.Dr. D. J. Ajith Kumar is the founder of GMI. Now he is working as an ordained Presbyter of the Diocese of Phulbani (Odisha), Church of North India (CNI). He has been appointed as the Director, Stewardship Committee of the Diocese. He has stepped down from the Presidentship of GMI and handed over the leadership of the Organization to the second-line leadership in 2013.

He was born in Trivandrum, Kerala State, India. He was born and brought up in a very strict Christian discipline by his parents. It was considered that several years back, his great grandparents migrated from Thenkasi,Tamilnadu to Travancore. His grandfather  Late. Daniel Sarasam was a tool for planting several L.M.S. Churches and eventually those Churches became the Churches in the C.S.I South Kerala Diocese. Even from childhood, Ajithkumar was very much interested in Christian ministry. When he was 12 years old, he was asked to preach in his church; it was a World Sunday-School Day. His father prepared the sermon for him from Pro. 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. That was his first public sermon. The regular family prayer, the church activities and his parents’ inspiration encouraged him to work for the Glory of God. In his own words: “I do not know how it was illuminated in my mind, but from my childhood, I had only one desire; that is, “To Serve the Lord”. Eventually God was dealing with him about eternal life, hell, heaven and the urgency of evangelism through dreams and visions. And one day when he was fifteen, he accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and surrendered his life for the Lord’s work.

After his experience of salvation, he started conducting Bible classes for the peer group and group meetings among his friends’ circle in his village. When he was eighteen, he was anointed by the Holy Spirit, and after that he started a fellowship in his house with the help of his parents. Since it was God’s plan, that fellowship started growing. A time came when the believers could not be accommodated; it compelled him to construct a temporary shed to conduct the service. His father supported him to construct that prayer shed. That was the beginning of an independent ministry. When he was studying for B.Tech in the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, he was very much actively engaged in Christian ministry preaching in conventions, street corner meetings, prayer cells, revival meetings in churches, and so on. Many young people joined him in this ministry. Eventually, the Grace Ministries of India was founded and registered as a registered charitable society.

After he did his B.Tech from C.E.T, he did his Master’s Degree (M.A) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) in Sociology from Annamalai University. Further, he did his Theological studies – Bachelor of Christian Studies (B.C.S) with the Senate of Serampore College (University). Then he took Master in Theology (M.Th) from Wales University (U.K) through TAFTEE. He also did his doctoral studies (PhD) in Sociology on “Education and Tribal Development’ in Annamalai University. His studies in the field of Yoga (P.G.D.C in Yoga & T.T.C in Yoga) helped to pave the way to present the Gospel in indigenous and indianised approach to the thousands of our countrymen.

He had presented many research papers in various National and International seminars and conferences in the discipline of Sociology. He is a life member of Indian Sociological Society (ISS), New Delhi and Indian Academy of Social Sciences (IASS), Allahabad. He is working as the Honorary Director of Research Institute of Social Science (RISS), Trivandrum. He is also teaching Sociology and Research Methodology in the Post Graduate course in TAFTEE. He is the author of 7 books. “The Guruverse” (Teachings of Christ) and “Church Planting & Church Growth in Rural India” are well known and widely circulated. He had also written lyrics and composed music for many devotional songs. A highly popular one, “Ithratholam Yehova Sahayichu” is one among them. He is blessed with two children, Abhishek and Vivek. Abishek is studying in 4th year M.B.B.S at CSI Medical College, Karakonam, Trivandrum and Vivek is studying in the 3rd semester BTech (Civil) in the College of Engineering, Trivandrum (CET).
